Nach dem Album „Oh! Deu! Vre!“ (Numavi Records) und zwei Jahren des Tourens durch Europa bringt das Duo Baguette aus Graz sein zweites Album auf Noise Appeal Records heraus und lassen seinen Noise-Rock dabei ein wenig erwachsen werden. Radikale Veränderung oder Leerlauf standen für Philip Prugger (Gitarre, Gesang) und Manuel Finster (Drums) bei der Arbeit zum zweiten Album „Expensive Mouse“ nicht auf der Agenda: „Es gab keine guten Vorsätze oder Experimente, die wir machen oder vermeiden wollten,“ sagt Philip Prugger. „Wir haben geschrieben und irgendwann war da für uns ein roter Faden, dem wir folgen wollten. Beim Machen hat sich das gut angefühlt. Wenn man das nur mehr hören muss, ist das sicher noch angenehmer.“ Nach Monaten des Schreibens und Probens nahm die Band das Album im Sommer 2017 auf. Gearbeitet wurde in einer alten Mühle in der Südsteiermark beim dort ansässigen Multiinstrumentalist und Produzent Bernd Heinrauch, der schon mit Formationen wie Melvins, Chicks On Speed, Mark Deutrom, Binder & Krieglstein, Die Buben im Pelz oder Hella Comet das Meiste aus ihren Songs herausholt. Acht neue Lieder finden sich auf ihrer zweiten LP und dem Debüt auf Noise Appeal Records. „Expensive Mouse“ schleift intuitiv am Sound der Band, ohne dass die Ecken und Kanten ihres Noise Rocks abgestumpft wirken. Es stellt sich heraus, dass dadurch nichts glatter wird. Die Gitarre zittert, elektrisiert und verdreht sich. Die Drums sind mal abenteuerlich, mal bodenständig, aber immer agil. Der Gesang ist ein enttäuschtes Schmachten und entgeistertes Rufen. Die Band bewegt sich vor, probiert neue Strukturen aus und findet Platz für seltsamere Elemente wie dekorative Keyboards, knarzenden Bass und Pfeifen. Geschickt gewählte Samples fügen unerwartete, auflockernde Akzente hinzu, ohne dass dabei auf Schenkelklopfer zurückgegriffen wird. Den Titel „Expensive Mouse“ muss man nicht verstehen, um ihn für seinen bizarren Klang zu lieben. Wenn es ein Thema auf dem Album gibt, dann sind das die existenziellen Schrecken, die in einem ganz normalen Alltag liegen – aber in catchy. Man kann versuchen, in unser surrealen neuen Welt einen Sinn für sich zu finden. „Expensive Mouse“ von Baguette bietet dafür die ideale Begleitung.

Vre!“ (Numavi Records) and two years of touring Europe, Graz-based duo Baguette will release their second album onNoise Appeal Records and prove that Noise Rock can grow up! Radical changes or at-rest weren’t on Philip Prugger (Guitar & Vocals) and Manuel Finster’s (Drums) schedule during the production of their second studio album, „Expensive Mouse“. „We didn’t have any good intenrions or experiments that we wanted to do“, said Philip Prucker. „We just wrote and wrote and at some point, there was a red thread that we followed and it felt really good. And once you listen to only that, it’s even better.“ After months of writing and producing, the band recorded their album in the summer of 2017. The location was an old mill in the South of Styria, at resident producer Bernd Heinrauch, who worked with bands like Melvins, Chicks On Speed, Mark Deutrom, Binder & Krieglstein, Die Buben im Pelz or Hella Comet. Eight brand new songs can be found on the second LP and the debut on Noise Appeal Records. „Expensive Mouse“ drags intuitively on the bass’ sound, without making their edges feel less edgy. In fact, you realize that nothing gets smoother because of it. The guitar shakes, electrifies and turns. The drums at times sound adventurous or down to earth, but always agil. The vocals are a disappointed craving and flabbergasted calling. Baguette moves forward, trying new structures and find new space for weird elements like decorated key boards, creaking bass and pipes. Carefully chosen, the sample has unexpected, but relaxing accents, but without falling back on old knee-slappers. The title, „Expensive Mouse“ doesn’t have to be understood to love it and its bizarre sound. If there’s a topic that sets the album, it’s the existential horrors that can be found in normal, everyday life, but a bit more catchy. You can try to make sense of our new, surreal world and Baguette is the perfect company for this trip.
